Do I need topsoil before sod?

In most cases, yes. Sod needs a clean, healthy growing layer to root properly. If the existing soil is hard, rocky, compacted, or low quality, we recommend adding and grading topsoil before installation.

Can you remove the old lawn first?

Yes. We can remove old grass, weeds, damaged turf, rough material, or failed lawn areas before installing new topsoil and sod.

Can sod help with a wet yard?

Sod can improve the look and usability of a yard, but it will not fix drainage on its own. If the area is wet because of poor slope, trapped water, or runoff, grading or drainage work may be needed before sod is installed.

How long until I can walk on new sod?

Avoid heavy use at first while the sod roots. Light walking is usually okay after the first couple of weeks, but regular use should wait until the lawn has started to establish

Do I need to water new sod?

Yes. Watering is critical. New sod needs consistent watering after installation, especially during warm, dry, or windy weather. The first few weeks are the most important.
